Realistic Magic
Lawndale is one of Chicago’s most known neighborhood. Adonis is 16 years old and trying to make it in the world without having his oldest sister Adonia provide for him. Living in the roughest neighborhood besides Englewood is crazy. Adonia dropped out of High school to take care of Adonis when she was 14. She now dances at a strip club called “Kingdom”. While being persuaded to become more than the average male, Adonis wishes he had magical powers to escape this place called life.
Scene 1:
(Adonia sits in her two bedroom apartment reading the local Lawndale newspaper)
Adonia: Oh my God, this is like the seventh incident of an AIDS victim dying in this exact community.
Adonis: Man sis, I’m trying to tell you that’s all this neighborhood is known for. I swear I wish I had a magic wand.
Adonia: (Laughing) and what the hell would yo young ass gon do with a wand.
Adonis: (Feeling offended) Man we wouldn’t be living in a roach infested apartment and you wouldn’t have to strip. That’s what I would do with that wand, make magnificent shit happen.
Adonia: (Immediately stops laughing and runs over to Adonis) I’m sorry baby boy if I offended you, I know we living rough and one day this is all gon be a memory that we will never forget. We gon make it believe that!
Adonis: I know we is, but I can’t have you dancing at no strip joint too long.
Adonia: I know, but for now this the only way that I can make quick fast money. Besides I think I make more than enough.
Adonis: (Putting on his backpack and grabbing an apple) Yea you do, but I can’t accept the fact that all these niggas out here seeing my sister’s temple.
Adonia: I know and please believe I don’t appreciate the attention. Despite my job I’m gon do what I gotta do just to provide for you baby boo. Be safe at school, text me when you get there, and learn some shit.
Adonis: (Laughing) Ha ha ha funny, I learn something new every day, how about you. (Kisses Adonia on the cheek, grabs his coat, and leaves).
Scene 2:
(Adonis makes it to school and text Adonia’s phone)
Amillion: Hey, Adonis!
Adonis: Hey, Amil! How have you been I mean life wise and school wise?
Amillion: Everything is going great! I guess (Amillion looks down and over thinks her answer) I mean No! Adonis everything is not going great.
Adonis: What’s wrong? Amil talk to me!
Amillion: Adonis I tried breaking up with Johnerik yesterday and he hit me. Then he started talking all crazy talking about if I ever attempt to tell him something like that again he gon do something worse than what he did this time.
Adonis: (Furious) WHAT!!! You got to be playing this fool done put his hands on you. I can’t let that happen nawl not today or any otha day. (Adonis gets up and starts pacing the hallway like a mad man)
Amillion: (Reaches for Adonis) Adonis calm down please. I don’t know what he’s capable of doing just as I don’t know what you’re capable of doing. I just know that I really don’t want to be with him no more Adonis. (Amillion stands up and grabs Adonis hand and pull him close to her and starts to cry on his shoulder)
Adonis: It’s okay Amil im here for you. Haven’t I always been here? I love you girl just as if you was my girl, but im not about to accept the fact that some low life is putting his hands on something as precious as gold. I promise until this day that I will never let anybody hurt you. (Adonis looks into Amillion dark green eyes and kisses her passionately. Amillion lets out a sigh of relief and follows Adonis inside the school building for first period)
Scene 3:
(Adonia cleans up the house right after Adonis leaves for school and gets online to look up some G.E.D. classes that she can take online. Afterwards she starts to get dress to head to the Kingdom for a dark night of hard work)
Trey: (Seeing Adonia pull up in front of the club and instantly walks over to her car to try to spit his game) Damn shorty I must say Hov must’ve did his thing when you was in the womb
Adonia: Trey please get on! Every time you see me you always trying to holla and spit yo lame ass game. But every time I send you clean off!
Trey: Im sorry Adonia I just like you so much and I really want to take you out on a date. Somewhere special, not to the chicken shack because I know you deserve more than the average chick.
Adonia: Maybe tonight I just might let you treat me to some early morning breakfast right after I leave this shit hole (Looking at the club as if she was about to regurgitate)
Trey: Okay that would be nice! (Planning to take her to Red Lobster then to the finest hotel Trey already knew what time it was he been dying to sleep with Adonia. Being that he was diagnosed with AIDS a year ago he had decided to stop having sex for a while and study upon his new unwanted disease)
Scene 4:
(Adonis is walking home from school along with Amillion and discovers something unusual happening)
Adonis: So I know Ms. Peterson class what crazy?
Amillion: (Laughing) yes, boy Rekita and Bianca got it cracking. I mean it wasn’t a usual fight I mean that was manila a hood fight. They were throwing heavy hands something like Roy Jones Jr. fight. They girls didn’t even attempt to jump in, but it was on and popping. Ms. P came in, but that still didn’t stop them.
Adonis: (Looking at a strange man entering the alley across the street, but then exiting leaving a something wrapped tight in black cloth behind) dang man I wish I was there, man I would’ve been instigating like it wasn’t nothing. I been dying to see them girls go at it, they always talking shit to each other, and they been into it since the 5th grade.
Amillion: (Looking in the same position that Adonis is looking in) yea you right, but enough about them. I know you just seen what I just seen
Adonis: (Looking at Amil) yea I seen it and I’m curious as hell to go see what it is. It could be a million dollars or it could be a gun
Amillion: Boy how about it’s neither one. Let’s go see though
Adonis: (Entering into the alley and grabbing the wrapped cloth) Amillion look at this
Amillion: What is it?
Adonis: It’s a wand and papers about magic!
Amillion: OMG! Boy you had me follow you in a nasty ass alley for a damn plastic wand and some crazy ass magical papers that suppose to help somebody learn something that will never be realer than life. (Laughing at Adonis and leaving out the alley)
Adonis: (Thinking about the conversation that he just had with Adonia earlier that day. He folds the wand back up and puts it in his bag) could this really be happening?
(Adonis walks Amillion home and goes home himself to find out more information upon his newly found present)
Scene 5:
(Adonia leaving the club and meeting up with Trey at her car)
Adonia: Oh my feet are so sore! (Rubbing her feet)
Trey: its cool shorty I’ll rub yo feet, yo back, and so on. It’s whatever when it comes down to a beauty queen like yourself. I don’t mind nothing at all whatever you want in life from me you can have without asking baby.
Adonia: Trey that was so sweet, but I don’t need nothing from you or any other man. I just need a friend that can understand what I am going through and to be there for me.
Trey: Damn boo; it ain’t even got to be like that (looking sincere) I just want to be your man your friend, and your helping hand.
Adonia: I’m sorry Trey. I’m just tired and I need a massage and a hot bath.
Trey: Well follow me and I can lead you to all your desires just let me be the one you need.
Adonia: (giving in to Trey’s mischievous ways) Okay Trey. I would really like that better yet love it.
(Back at the hotel room Trey ran hot bathing water for Adonia and ordered room service in all he spent over 700 dollars. Trey wanted Adonia more than ever he didn’t want to hurt her he had grown on to talking to her about life and future preferences, but it was ordered that he do as he was told to do. As Adonia comes out of the bath room Trey gives her a nice massage and starts to kiss her romantically. His hands then roams to her lower body and Trey loses his composure and let what’s about to happen, happen no turning back now)
Adonia: Trey I had a great night
Trey: Yea I know you did, but I really need to tell you something.
Adonia: Tell me I mean it can’t be that bad right (smiling and breaking Trey’s concentration)
Trey: I want to tell you that I want to see more of you and I really think that you and I can become more than friends. Don’t you think?
Adonia: Yes Trey I Believe so!
Scene 6:
(Adonia enters the house and goes to Adonis rooms and finds him answering his cell phone)
Adonis: (looking at Adonia in his door way and talking on the phone to Amillion)
Amillion: Adonis can I please come over I can’t stay another night in this house
Adonis: Yea hold on let me see if it’s cool with my sister and I’m a call you right back
Amillion: Okay, but please hurry
Adonia: Yea fool I’m cool with that I don’t even know why y’all don’t consider y’all self talking to each other she can come over anytime. This yo house too, as much as I provide you provide as much as I do.
Adonis: Alright sis, im about to call her right now cause lately she been tripping. (Adonis calling Amillion)
Amillion: Hello?
Adonis: Yea wussup, you ready?
Amillion: Yes, im ready
Adonis: Okay Im on my way to come and get you
Amillion: Okay
Scene 7:
(Adonia takes a soothing bath and calls up Trey)
Ring…Ring…Ring…Ring…
Trey: Yo wussup who this be
Adonia: It’s me Trey Adonia
Trey: (Sounding aggravated) Wussup Shortee
Adonia: Nothing I was just wondering if you weren’t busy can you come over and chill with me. I mean maybe we can turn this night into last night. You feel me?
Trey: (sounding as if he want to give in, but then realizes he’s on a job) baby girl I wish but I got something to take care of maybe next time.
Adonia: (Sighs) well okay, I guess I’ll call later to see if you changed your mind. Bye Trey
Trey: Bye Shortee
(Today is Adonia’s doctor’s appointment)
Doctor: Hi, Adonia! How is life treating you?
Adonia: Hi Doc, Life is treating me good. I’ve been steady with all of my bills, my brother is doing marvelous in school, and I finally met a guy.
Doctor: awe that’s nice. So today im testing you for everything
Adonia: Okay, but im sure everything is going to come out 100% negative
Doctor: Yes im sure it will too (tests Adonia for everything & so far everything is negative)
(Adonia is back at home with Adonis and Amillion sitting in the front room playing the game on the 62in flat screen mounted on the wall)
Amillion: hey sister in law
Adonia: wussup baby girl
Amillion: nothing chilling trying to get through life and accept things for the way they are like Pac said “That’s just the way it is, things will never be the same”.
Adonia: Yea you right but Pac also said its time to make a change, so let’s change for the better and not the worse.
Amillion: You know you right. I guess me and Adonis are ready for change. (Looking at Adonis) that’s why we have considered going steady.
Adonia: That’s wussup, now im jealous lil bro always finding a good spouse except big sis can’t even find a shot caller
(Everybody laughs) it has been a few weeks and Trey and Adonia has not yet spoken to each other Adonis has been going to libraries and physics to find out just how to work the wand, as Adonis enters the gates to their apartment he sees the mailman and receives the mail. While scanning through he sees their doctor’s office on one and his sister’s name below. Thinking it’s nothing he opens it and reads the red works clarifying that his sister was indeed positive for HIV. Adonia comes home after work and finds out about she is heartbroken and knows immediately how she contracted the disease.
Scene 8:
Adonia: I’m sorry this ever happened all I wanted to find was a good man and a happy ever ending.
Adonis: It’s okay sis. Im going to take care of you (Adonis reaches in his bag and pulls the wand out)
Adonia: Adonis what is that this isn’t a joke im actually sick and you want to play around with a wand
Adonis: Listen sis I can make the pain go way just with this and a few magical words
Adonia: Well let me see this happen (being sarcastic) since you know so much Adonis
Amillion: Adonia he knows what he’s talking about
Adonia: Whatever
Adonis: (Works his magic and says his secret words and hopes that his magic wand worked) okay im done now in about two weeks go see your doctor.
(Adonia visits the doctor in two weeks and finds out that she isn’t diagnosed with HIV, she’s shocked because the doctor has the test results in her hand stating that Adonia was in fact diagnosed with HIV. Adonia sheds tears and calls Adonis thanking and telling him that she now believes in magic. Adonia eventually stopped working at Kingdom and got a real job after receiving her G.E.D. Adonis and Amillion got engaged and went to Georgetown while Adonia got an intern she will soon be given $200,000. Life is going great for each of them and Adonis had his magic wand mounted up on his wall).
